A Little About Chris Gardner & Movie
The Pursuit of Happiness is based on life and struggle of once a homeless American Businessman/ Motivational Speaker/ Philanthropist Christopher Gardner, and how he battled hard with his only son to get an earning source and decent living for his child. Script of this best feel good movie was inspired from his own book based on his memoirs, written by Steve Conrad. Movie was directed by Gabriele Muccino. Will Smith portray the main role and his son role played by his own son Jaden Smith. Movie is 8/10 rated by IMDB.
Following is my take on life lessons and rules from this motivational movie:
1. Never Quit
Always be motivated and never quit regardless of any kind of difficulties in life. Because time will pass but you and lessons learned will remain to guide you in future. In those stressful times always think about; why you started, what was your goal and what will you get by just sticking to your grounds. Start small, take baby steps and never look back. Everyone has their own life cycle; your good time will definitely come!
2. Be Patient & Keep Trying
Hard times requires extreme patience, big heart and open mind. Have inspirations to look forward into, but never compare yourself with anyone else. Mind it; bigger the person is, bigger the ideas will, hence bigger the struggle will be. Therefore, be patient, be straight headed and keep trying for towards right direction. Only great people with high patience, sustain adverse times and only they make big out of bad times.
3. Live & Care For Your Loved Ones
Chris Gardner and his son Jarrett Gardner gives us perfect father son life goal. How Chris took care of his son, how he always tried to cherish and amaze his toddler child and how he try to envisaged positive values in his son; all those interactions were so perfect, warming and heart touching.
Forget about people who leaved you. Just focus on and live for people in your life. Make your children, your parents, your peers, your spouse, your blood relations your strength and live for them. This target based motivation will led you in those distressful times. People come and go, only true relations remains.
4. Sacrifice for Long Term Goals
We saw how he struggle to find better living and earning source but every time, he faced failure. But when he got non paid, not job guaranteed internship. At start he was reluctant but then he sacrifice for six months and worked hard to earn his spot in brokerage house as broker. Which then turned his life once in for all.
This indeed should be our life priority. Sometime, we have to make sacrifices & short term losses for greater and better future goals. For a bit more motivation from real life, Gardner now funding $50 million project in San Francisco that creates low income housing and employments in the area where he once lived homeless.
5. Know & Cash Your Strengths
A smart person always knows his strengths and weaknesses. Person should always bet on his abilities & strengths not on his doubts and inabilities. Chris knows he was good in numbers, he took his shot and capitalized his odds. List down your potentials and invest time and resources to stand higher and alone. This differentiation will create cutting edge for you in your job, in your business and in your personality as a whole.
